God is our Father but also the ultimate Law-Giver and Judge. His standards are way higher than our own. And He gives us His standards as commandments we need to follow. The reason he tells us what we can do and what we cannot do is to protect us from the effects of wrong doing. He is the one who created us and he knows what is good for us and what destroys us.
Jesus Christ has changed the course of this world and the course of millions of lives as no one else has. History is divided into B.C and A.D by reference to His birth and nearly one out of every three people on this earth profess to be his followers. Who is this man? What is it that so different about Him that people are even willing to give up their lives for Him?
GOD IS OUR FATHER and He created us that we may love Him, have a relationship with Him and enjoy our lives to the full. True joy and happiness come by being connected with God the right way. But instead, we are SEPARATED and CUT OFF from Him because WE HAVE SINNED - we do not give God the first place in our lives, dishonor our parents, lie, cheat, steal, lust with our eyes, use bad language, curse, hate certain people and have unforgiveness towards certain others…… and so much more. Many times because of this we go through a lot of pain, suffering, sickness, and cannot really enjoy this life and will be surely separated from God forever in hell.
We all look for someone to really love us, for someone to accept us as we are, to understand us, to care for us. No matter how much some of us may deny it, deep inside that's what we all long for – love, acceptance, understanding, care. But very often it just remains a dream, a desire. And in a world with seven billion people you find yourself alone and lonely.
No one seems to have the time for you. No one seems to notice you. People just pass you by as though you do not exist. Sometimes even the closest people – your parents, your husband / wife, your children – are so busy with everyday life and work that they seem to be ignoring you. And you have this question in your heart, 'Do they really love me, do they really care?' May be you've walked such a lonely journey through this life that life itself seems uninteresting to you.
Real life does not consist in the abundance of our wealth and possessions. It is not about how rich we are, how many friends we have, our social status, what car we own, the good clothes we wear, how famous we are or anything of that sort. All of this will pass away once we die. These all may be needed for this life but there is something more important – something that lasts for eternity: A RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD.
Is that the question you are asking yourself?
After achieving all that you wanted to achieve, after reaching the place and position in your life that you wanted to reach, after having the money you always wanted to have, after having a name and a fair amount of fame in your life, after having tried all that you wanted to try to make your life happier – are you still unsatisfied? Or maybe you have achieved nothing in life and feel you are a 'nobody' in this life and so are unsatisfied. In pursuit of satisfaction you may have tried everything possible - being with family, hanging out for endless hours with friends, movies, drinking, smoking, drugs, pornography and maybe even sex! But you still feel an emptiness that nothing can fill, a longing no one can satisfy. You feel you are still missing something.
Most of us do not give careful thought to our lives. We just live day-day, month-month and year-year, rarely even asking ourselves, ‘What am I living for’? ‘What is the purpose of my life’? We work so hard to make our lives secure that we hardly even think of the reason for our lives. We live as though we would spend an eternity on this earth. The span of our lives is 70 or 80 years (maybe much lesser!!). And what after that? Have you considered the fact that you have a soul? Certain decisions you make while you are still alive will determine the fate of your soul? When you die your body goes to the grave but your soul lives on to receive an eternal reward – heaven or an eternal punishment – hell.
Are you wondering how this could be the most important question in your life? Read on to know why.
Your response to Jesus Christ has very important consequences – both now and eternally. Pontius Pilate a governor in Israel first asked this all important question, 2000 years back, when faced with either handing Jesus over for crucifixion or releasing Him. And, during the process of Jesus' trial, crucifixion, death and time after his resurrection, the Bible talks about various people's responses, which reflects the response of probably every single person that has lived ever since Jesus Christ's time on earth. Let's look at the different people and their response to Jesus:
There are things in the past in almost all of our lives that we wish never happened or things that we wish we never had done; things that we would like to change and re-write if we had a chance to go back to our past. There are many things that leave a hurt, a wound or an unpleasant memory inside our hearts and minds that keeps coming back to haunt us as if it had just happened yesterday. Some things that leave a bad memory could be our own doing – wrongdoing, failures, wrong decisions - while some other things could be someone else’s doing – abuse, insults, hurts; but either way it leaves a trail of guilt, shame and a sense of defeat. And thinking of those events might leave us sad and depressed. It might also cause us to live in unforgiveness: towards ourselves, towards others or towards both.
But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint. (Isaiah 40:31)
Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; 5 does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; 6 does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth…(1 Cor 13:4-6)
